How Do I Avoid A Jerky Start To My Swing??
|
Ted from St. Catharines Ontario, asked in an email, "How do I avoid a jerky start to my golf swing?"
Good Question Ted. Since you are a taller than average person at 6 feet, 6 inches, you have a much smaller margin for error in your long golf swing.
The longer Clubs--driver, 3-wood, & 3-iron etc.--always cause the most tension, because they come with the smallest margin of error.
You need some extra effort to keep your grip pressure light and your tempo smooth.
One simple way to avoid a jerky start is to tap your rear foot to create a beat for your swing.
As you look at the target at address, tap your rear toe and say to yourself, "One."
As you look back to the ball, tap again and say, "Two;" and finally tap "Three,"
which is your "Trigger" to go.
The tapping prevents you from freezing and helps develop a rhythm at the start of the swing.
Practice this simple drill on the Practice Range, many times before taking this routine to the golf course.
Good Luck Jeff!
